Kia's compact crossover, financed as a first-SUV step-up across New Zealand since 2019.
Last reviewed: 24 April 2026
The Kia Seltos is a compact crossover that launched in New Zealand in late 2019 on a platform shared with the Hyundai Kona of the era, and now sits between the Stonic and the Sportage in the Kia NZ SUV lineup. Two petrol drivetrains lead NZ supply: a 2.0 MPi with CVT in 2WD form on LX and EX trims, and a 1.6 T-GDi turbo with seven-speed dual-clutch in AWD form on the GT-Line and X-Line. A Seltos Hybrid is sold in select markets and occasionally turns up as a Japanese or Korean import in New Zealand, though NZ-new hybrid supply has been limited to date. Financed Seltos amounts typically fall in the $25,000 to $50,000 band, which places the model squarely in the mid-bracket SUV finance segment alongside the Mazda CX-30, Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross.

Financing notes
At a $28,000 used 2022 Seltos EX on a five-year term at 8.5% indicative, the weekly repayment sits at roughly $133, or about $575 a month. A near-new GT-Line AWD near $42,000 on the same settings lifts the weekly to around $199. The Kia NZ seven-year factory warranty on a nearly-new Seltos commonly covers the full length of a standard five-year loan, which typically reduces the case for dealer-added mechanical breakdown cover on the principal. A 10 to 20% deposit is widely observed and usually nudges the indicative rate down.
Model-specific questions
On a $28,000 used 2022 Seltos EX at 8.5% indicative over five years with no deposit, the repayment works out to roughly $133 a week. A near-new GT-Line AWD at $42,000 on the same settings lands at around $199 a week, and a 20% deposit on that figure drops the weekly to around $159. These figures are illustrative only; actual rates depend on the lender's credit assessment.
On a late-model Seltos with a clean credit record and a modest deposit, indicative rates from mainstream NZ lenders typically sit in the 8 to 10% range. Older pre-2021 examples commonly land in the 9 to 11% range because the asset is older and lender residual exposure is higher. A thin credit file or recent arrears is widely observed to push the rate toward the upper end of the band.
Kia NZ's seven-year, 150,000 km factory warranty on NZ-new Seltos stock commonly covers the full length of a standard five-year loan. That typically reduces the case for dealer-added mechanical breakdown cover rolled into the principal and keeps the weekly tighter. The warranty transfers on resale within the NZ market, which is widely regarded as supportive of used-market residuals.
The 1.6 T-GDi AWD commonly sits $4,000 to $7,000 above an equivalent 2.0 MPi on comparable used stock. The turbo delivers stronger real-world driveability at highway speeds and brings AWD on the GT-Line and X-Line, which some buyers value for winter highway use. Fuel economy sits broadly similar on the open road; the turbo typically drinks a touch more in town driving.
A 10 to 20% deposit is widely observed across Seltos finance in New Zealand. On a $28,000 used Seltos that is $2,800 to $5,600, and on a $42,000 GT-Line AWD that is $4,200 to $8,400. A deposit typically nudges the indicative rate down and reduces total interest; on a $42,000 loan a 20% deposit usually shaves around $40 off the weekly on our calculator.
Yes, on essentially the same terms as a dealer purchase. A broker can source an indicative rate before the price is agreed. A Carjam report typically verifies the VIN, odometer, and any existing secured interest on the PPSR; the seller must clear any listed security at settlement. A pre-purchase inspection at $180 to $280 is widely regarded as worth the cost on older examples.
Five years is the widely observed default across Seltos finance in New Zealand. Four-year terms are common on used examples under $25,000 because total interest stays modest. A seven-year term is available on new Seltos through some lenders but adds material total interest: on a $40,000 loan at 8.5% indicative, seven years costs roughly $5,500 more in interest than five on our calculator.
Seltos depreciation on NZ-new examples has tracked in line with the compact-crossover class on indicative NZ used-market trends since 2021, with the seven-year factory warranty typically supporting residuals inside the standard loan term. A 10 to 20% deposit and a term of five years or less are the commonly observed defences against year-one negative equity, particularly on new GT-Line AWD stock.

Disclaimer
A car loan is a commitment that runs for years, and repayments come out of the same pay cheque as everything else. Before committing, it is worth modelling the weekly and monthly cost against the household budget, which is what this site is built to help with. Borrowing at a level that stays comfortable on a bad week, not a good one, is widely regarded as the safer frame.
Carfinance.org.nz earns a commission from a partner brand when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. That commission is paid by the partner, not the applicant, and it does not influence the rate the lender offers. We refer every visitor to the same partner because they compare multiple New Zealand lenders on the applicant's behalf, so the recommendation is not driven by a sponsored deal. Every figure shown on this site is a modelled estimate based on the inputs entered; the actual rate, fees, and repayments are set by the lender after assessing the applicant's circumstances and own credit decision. Any decision about whether a specific loan suits a specific situation is best made after talking with the lender, and for amounts that materially affect the household, with a registered financial adviser.
