Privacy policy.

We collect as little personal information as possible. This page explains what that looks like in practice.

The short version.

Carfinance.org.nz is a calculator and information site. We do not run application forms on this domain, we do not capture your name or contact details, and we do not sell or share personal information with anyone. The only data we collect is aggregate analytics about pages and clicks.

Who we are.

Carfinance.org.nz is operated from New Zealand as an information and calculator service. We are not a lender, not a registered financial adviser, and not a broker. This Privacy Policy is issued under the Privacy Act 2020 and sets out how we treat personal information collected through our site.

What we collect.

We collect a small set of analytics data, and nothing else:

  • Page views, referrer URLs, and device type via Google Analytics 4.
  • Aggregate events when you use the calculator (which sliders move, whether you click through to our partner) without any identifiers that could trace back to you personally.
  • The IP address associated with your visit is handled by Google Analytics under their standard IP-anonymisation settings.

We do not run forms, we do not ask for your name, email, phone number, address, income, or identification, and we do not store any of those things. If you click through to our finance partner and start an application on their site, anything you enter there is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Cookies and similar technology.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to recognise returning visitors and measure aggregate usage. You can disable these cookies in your browser settings or via browser-level tracking protection without affecting your ability to use the calculator. We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or cross-site tracking scripts.

Third parties.

Two third-party services touch your visit:

  • Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC). Collects aggregate usage data. Governed by Google's privacy terms.
  • Our finance partner. The referral partner is being finalised. While TBC, the apply buttons open a notice that the partner is coming soon, so no referral data leaves our domain. Once the partner is named, this section will list the partner and their domain. Anything you then provide to them will be subject to their own privacy policy and Credit Contracts and Consumer Finance Act obligations.

Your rights under the Privacy Act.

Because we do not hold personal information about you, there is usually nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or delete on request. If you believe we hold something about you and you would like to confirm, access, or correct it, email us at the address below and we will respond within 20 working days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Changes to this policy.

If we change how we handle information (for example, adding a new analytics tool), we will update this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will also be flagged in a banner on the homepage for at least 30 days.

A car loan is a commitment that runs for years, and repayments come out of the same pay cheque as everything else. Before committing, it is worth modelling the weekly and monthly cost against the household budget, which is what this site is built to help with. Borrowing at a level that stays comfortable on a bad week, not a good one, is widely regarded as the safer frame.

Carfinance.org.nz earns a commission from a partner brand when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. That commission is paid by the partner, not the applicant, and it does not influence the rate the lender offers. We refer every visitor to the same partner because they compare multiple New Zealand lenders on the applicant's behalf, so the recommendation is not driven by a sponsored deal. Every figure shown on this site is a modelled estimate based on the inputs entered; the actual rate, fees, and repayments are set by the lender after assessing the applicant's circumstances and own credit decision. Any decision about whether a specific loan suits a specific situation is best made after talking with the lender, and for amounts that materially affect the household, with a registered financial adviser.
