Financing a Ford Courier in New Zealand

The Courier is Ford's older compact ute, built on a shared platform with the Mazda Bounty and replaced in New Zealand by the Ranger from 2006. More than 11,000 remain on the Carjam fleet register, largely in trades and on farms where a cheap, simple ute still earns its place. Because the newest examples are now around twenty years old, Courier finance is a small, short loan, and in most cases the buyer is a business rather than a household.

Who this suits

Who buys a Ford Courier?

  • Sole traders wanting the cheapest working ute that will still pass a warrant reliably.
  • Farms and lifestyle blocks needing a paddock vehicle rather than a road ute.
  • Buyers who want a compact tray without the size or price of a modern twin-cab.
  • Trades replacing a Courier with another one on parts familiarity.

Financing notes

What financing a Courier usually looks like.

At $8,000 over three years at 8% indicative, the weekly repayment sits near $60. Most lenders' vehicle-age limits bind hard on a model this old, so a two or three-year term is common and some lenders decline secured lending altogether in favour of a personal loan. Where the ute is mainly a business asset, a chattel mortgage is often the better structure, settled with an accountant before applying.

Model-specific questions

Ford Courier finance FAQ.

Is a Ford Courier too old to finance?

It is close to the limit for most secured lenders, because the newest examples are around twenty years old and lenders cap vehicle age at the end of the term. Where a secured car loan does not fit, buyers commonly use a personal loan instead, which is unsecured and priced accordingly.

Is the Courier related to the Mazda Bounty?

Yes, they share a platform and much of their mechanical package, which is why parts availability is better than the age of the model would suggest. Both appear in the New Zealand fleet in numbers, and a workshop familiar with one is generally familiar with the other.

Can a Courier be financed through a business?

Frequently, since most are bought to work. Where the ute is mainly a business asset a chattel mortgage is generally the better structure than a consumer car loan, and the GST and depreciation treatment follows from that. Your accountant confirms which side of the line it falls on.

What does a Courier cost per week on finance?

An $8,500 example over three years at 8% indicative works out at about $63 a week. On a vehicle at this age the inspection and the PPSR result matter more to the outcome than the weekly figure does, because condition varies enormously between examples.

Disclaimer

A car loan runs for years, and the repayment comes out of the same pay that covers everything else. This site exists to show you that weekly number before you sign anything. The payment that catches people out is the one that's fine on a good week and tight on a bad one.

Carfinance.org.nz receives a commission from Simplify when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. We refer every visitor to the same partner because they compare multiple New Zealand lenders on the applicant's behalf, so the referral is not driven by a sponsored deal. Simplify sets its own terms and fees and discloses them directly; anything you agree to happens on their side, not ours. Every figure shown on this site is a modelled estimate based on the inputs entered; the actual rate, fees, and repayments are set by the lender after assessing the applicant's circumstances and its own credit decision. Any decision about whether a specific loan suits a specific situation is best made after talking with the lender, and for amounts that materially affect the household, with a registered financial adviser.
