Financing a Nissan Caravan in New Zealand

Caravan and NV350 are the same van under two names, and between them there are more than 15,000 in New Zealand. Nissan applied the NV350 prefix to the later generations, which is why the fleet register lists both. It is the main alternative to the Hiace for trades and couriers, and like the Hiace most of it arrives here as a used Japanese import rather than through Nissan New Zealand. Most Caravan finance is written through a business rather than a household, which changes the structure more than it changes the rate.

Who this suits

Who buys a Nissan Caravan?

  • Sole traders carrying tools and materials daily.
  • Courier and delivery operators running fixed routes at high kilometres.
  • Buyers converting a van for camping or weekend travel.
  • Businesses replacing an ageing van and wanting an alternative to the Hiace.

Financing notes

What financing a Caravan usually looks like.

At $24,000 over five years at 8% indicative, the weekly repayment sits near $116. Where the van is genuinely a work vehicle, a chattel mortgage is commonly the structure rather than a consumer car loan, and the GST and depreciation position follows from that. Which one applies is a question for your accountant, subject to their confirmation.

Model-specific questions

Nissan Caravan finance FAQ.

Is the NV350 the same as a Nissan Caravan?

Yes. NV350 is the naming Nissan applied to the later generations of the Caravan, so the two names describe one continuous model line. That is why the New Zealand fleet register lists both, and lenders assess them as a single asset.

How does the Caravan compare with a Hiace on finance?

They are financed identically; the difference is the used market. The Hiace parc here is substantially larger, which gives a lender more resale evidence and occasionally a little more room on term. The Hiace has its own page on this site if you want the two side by side.

Can a Caravan be financed through a business?

Frequently, since most are bought to work. Where the van is mainly a business asset a chattel mortgage generally fits better than a consumer car loan, and your accountant confirms which side of the line it falls on. Settling it before the application saves redoing the paperwork.

What does a Caravan cost per week on finance?

A $25,000 NV350 over five years at 8% indicative runs at roughly $121 a week, and a $38,000 later example at about $184. The calculator above shows what a deposit does to each, which on a working van is often the fastest lever.

Disclaimer

A car loan runs for years, and the repayment comes out of the same pay that covers everything else. This site exists to show you that weekly number before you sign anything. The payment that catches people out is the one that's fine on a good week and tight on a bad one.

Carfinance.org.nz receives a commission from Simplify when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. We refer every visitor to the same partner because they compare multiple New Zealand lenders on the applicant's behalf, so the referral is not driven by a sponsored deal. Simplify sets its own terms and fees and discloses them directly; anything you agree to happens on their side, not ours. Every figure shown on this site is a modelled estimate based on the inputs entered; the actual rate, fees, and repayments are set by the lender after assessing the applicant's circumstances and its own credit decision. Carfinance.org.nz is a calculator and information tool. We are not a lender, not a broker, and not a registered financial adviser. Any decision about whether a specific loan suits a specific situation is best made after talking with the lender, and for amounts that materially affect the household, with a registered financial adviser.
