Financing a Nissan Micra in New Zealand

Micra and March are the same small Nissan hatch, and the Carjam fleet register lists both because New Zealand received them through two channels. March is the Japanese-market name and accounts for most of the volume here, while Micra is what Nissan sold new locally. Between them there are close to 14,000 on the road. It is one of the cheapest ways into a modern-ish automatic in New Zealand, which puts it squarely in first-car territory and makes the borrower's credit file, not the car, the usual constraint on the application.

Who this suits

Who buys a Nissan Micra?

  • First-time drivers wanting the smallest realistic loan on an automatic.
  • Second-car households needing a cheap runabout for short trips.
  • Retirees downsizing to something easy to park and inexpensive to service.
  • Buyers on a tight budget who want a hatch newer than the money usually buys.

Financing notes

What financing a Micra usually looks like.

At $7,000 over three years at 8% indicative, the weekly repayment sits near $52. Small loans like this are usually written over short terms, both because some lenders set a minimum advance near this level and because interest over a long term becomes a large share of a small principal. First-time borrowers are assessed on part-time income, a deposit, or a guarantor rather than a credit history that does not exist yet.

Model-specific questions

Nissan Micra finance FAQ.

Is a Nissan March the same as a Micra?

Yes. March is the name used in Japan and Micra is the export name, and they are the same small hatch underneath. New Zealand received both, which is why the fleet register lists them separately, and lenders assess them interchangeably once entry compliance is certified on an import.

Is the Micra a sensible first car to finance?

It sits at the price point where first-car loans are most straightforward, because the amount is small and the resale market is deep. What usually shapes the application is the borrower's thin credit file rather than the car, and a deposit or a guarantor is the common way through that.

What does a Micra or March cost per week on finance?

A $7,500 example over three years at 8% indicative works out at about $56 a week. Moving to four years takes it near $44 and adds a few hundred dollars of total interest, which on a loan this small is a meaningful share of the principal.

Are running costs on a Micra genuinely low?

Fuel and servicing are among the cheapest of any car sold here, which is most of the appeal. The costs that catch people out are insurance for a young driver, which can rival the repayment, and tyres, which are due on many cheap examples at purchase. Both sit in the same weekly budget as the loan.

Disclaimer

A car loan runs for years, and the repayment comes out of the same pay that covers everything else. This site exists to show you that weekly number before you sign anything. The payment that catches people out is the one that's fine on a good week and tight on a bad one.

Carfinance.org.nz receives a commission from Simplify when a visitor applies through this site and their application is approved. We refer every visitor to the same partner because they compare multiple New Zealand lenders on the applicant's behalf, so the referral is not driven by a sponsored deal. Simplify sets its own terms and fees and discloses them directly; anything you agree to happens on their side, not ours. Every figure shown on this site is a modelled estimate based on the inputs entered; the actual rate, fees, and repayments are set by the lender after assessing the applicant's circumstances and its own credit decision.
